Winter postcards come to life here in Innsbruck ❄️ 🕯️ 🏔️ Lights, snow, and that alpine charm.

Spending a pre-Christmas weekend in Innsbruck is l Spending a pre-Christmas weekend in Innsbruck is like stepping into a festive fairy tale. ✨ The city comes alive with several magical Christmas markets — each with its own charm and family-friendly magic.

🎄In the Old Town, right under the Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), you’ll wander past around 60–70 wooden stalls filled with handmade ornaments, nativity scenes, woollen crafts, and traditional Tyrolean goodies. There’s even a “Fairy-tale Lane” along Kiebachgasse, where fairytale characters adorn the facades — perfect for little ones’ imaginations.

🎄Along Maria-Theresien-Straße, the boulevard sparkles with modern lighting, illuminated trees, and crystal-themed decorations. About 30 stalls offer international gifts, seasonal treats, and a cozy place to pause your shopping.

🎄At the Marktplatz (Market Square) by the Inn River, the atmosphere is especially family-friendly: there’s a nostalgic carousel, a puppet theatre, storytelling sessions, and a magnificent Swarovski crystal Christmas tree (about 14 m tall!).

🎄For a truly magical mountain-top moment, take the Nordkette funicular up to the Hungerburg Panorama Market. It’s quiet, peaceful, and offers breathtaking panoramic views over the city — plus mulled wine, Tyrolean snacks, and beautifully crafted Christmas decorations.

🎄If you want something more intimate, check out the St. Nikolaus Market (Hans-Brenner-Platz), open in the evenings, where the mood is calm, reflective, and cozy.

🎄There’s also the Wilten Christmas Magic market in Wiltener Platzl — with handicrafts, short concerts, children’s theater, and even organic mulled wine.

🎄And for something more remote and alpine: Bergisel, the “Kaiserweihnacht Bergisel” market, sits on the hill famous for ski jumping — you get regional crafts + a cozy, local feel away from the crowds.

Why it’s great for a FAMILY WEEKEND?
There’s something for everyone — kids will love the carousel, puppet shows, and fairytale decorations; adults will love browsing crafts, enjoying Glühwein (mulled wine) and local eats like Kiachl (fried dough pastries).

This time we‘re early with the making of our Adv This time we‘re early with the making of our Advent Wreath …🕯️

Not only bc I‘m usually traveling on the weekends, but also I want to enjoy the beauty of it a bit longer this year.

Did you know that an Advent wreath is a traditional Christian symbol used to mark the four weeks leading up to Christmas. It’s both a devotional object and a visual reminder of the anticipation of Christ’s arrival.

The shape is circular on purpose representing God’s eternal love and the everlasting life — no beginning and no end.

Also the use of the evergreen branches symbolizes continuous life, even in the dark of winter and the four candles stand for each week of Advent.

In Austria each Sunday of Advent, one additional candle is lit. Families often accompany the lighting with short story readings, or prayers reflecting the week’s theme.

Do you also have an Advent Wreath in your home or something similar you use during Christmas Time?
